The goals of Virginia Commonwealth University's Standards-based Teacher Education Program in English and Mathematics are as follows:

  1. To enhance the program through which students major in English and earn 6-12 licenses in English/language arts;
  2. To enhance the program through which students major in mathematics and earn 6-12 licenses in mathematics;
  3. To increase the number of VCU students and community college students (transferring into teacher preparation programs) who pass the Praxis I examinations and are admitted to all of VCU's teacher preparation programs;
  4. To enhance faculty knowledge of content assessed on the Praxis II examinations in mathematics and English/language arts and ensure student mastery of this content.
