The School of Education graduation ceremony was held on May 14 in the Stuart C. Siegel Center. Faculty, staff, family and friends celebrated the accomplishments of 194 students who now head out in diverse communities across the country to serve as teachers, counselors, school administrators, higher education faculty and other professionals committed to high-need learning environments.
“We are so proud of our students and all their hard work. They have found their aspirational and extraordinary purpose here at the VCU School of Education and now they are going out into the world to make a real impact, regardless of what path they choose,” said Dr. Diane Simon, senior associate dean for student affairs in the School of Education.
Dr. Michael Broda was presented with The Charles P. Ruch Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Broda, an assistant professor in the Department of Foundations of Education, has distinguished himself as an outstanding teacher who is highly regarded by the faculty and students in the School of Education. Dr. Broda is known as an excellent teacher, unselfish mentor and advisor whose knowledge, expertise and willingness to go “beyond the call of duty to support students” is an inspiration.
