The American College of Sports Medicine, the world’s largest sports medicine and exercise science organization, has endorsed two programs in the VCU School of Education’s Department of Exercise Science

The Applied Health Science and Clinical Exercise Science concentrations were recognized as meeting the academic standards needed to prepare students pursuing health and fitness or clinical exercise professions.

“This organization is widely considered the gold standard in health and fitness certifications and professional memberships,“ said Ronald K. Evans, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the department of Exercise Science. “These important endorsements open the door to future accreditation.”

The endorsements allow the School of Education to offer students unique benefits, including:

  • on-campus access to the organization’s credentialing exams
  • feedback on student performance, including exam scores and knowledge, skills, and abilities required for health and fitness certification
  • unique professional development opportunities
