Dr. Charol Shakeshaft receives AASA award for advancing status of minorities in education

Charol ShakeshaftProfessor Charol S. Shakeshaft, Ph.D., professor and chair of the VCU School of Education Department of Educational Leadership, has received a 2009 Dr. Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award from the American Association of School Administrators for advancing the status of women and minorities in education.

The award recognizes Dr. Shakeshaft for her commitment to diversifying the field of public education with high quality leaders and ensuring the best education for all students, especially those who are poor or minority.

"The information AASA received about you in your nomination package was filled with the kind of vision, persistence, strong convictions, and sense of quality and excellence that Effie modeled," AASA Executive Director Dan Domenech wrote in a letter congratulating Dr. Shakeshaft on her award. "The field of education is richer for her life and for the lives of educational leaders like you."

Awardees exemplify the professional qualities of advocacy, support, mentorship and encouragement of diversity in educational leadership.

The American Association of School Administrators, founded in 1865, is the professional organization for more than 13,000 educational leaders across the U.S. AASA’s mission is to support and develop effective school system leaders who are dedicated to the highest quality public education for all children.
