Three Richmond, Va., area principals and alumni of the VCU School of Education are recipients of the 2009 R.E.B. Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership.
David T. Sovine (M.Ed. ’94) at Monacan High School in Chesterfield County, Teresa M. Keck (M.Ed. ’86) at Henry Clay Elementary School in Hanover County, and Michael S. Kight (M.Ed. '01) at Albert Hill Middle School in Richmond each will receive a $7,500 cash grant and an additional $7,500 for school projects chosen by the principal.
The annual awards program recognizes Richmond-area principals who go beyond the day-to-day demands of their position to create an exceptional learning environment. It is administered by the R.E.B. Foundation and The Community Foundation.
Nominees must be principals who: manage effectively to promote excellence in education; demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment; inspire their students and are advocates for their school and faculty; encourage team spirit; foster cooperation between the school and the community; maintain dialogue with students, parents, faculty and staff; and have been a principal of their school for at least three years.
