MERC Conference & Call for Proposals
Effective Teaching: What Really Matters
Make plans now to attend the
sixth annual Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC)
conference, on Thursday, March 13, 2008
from 8:30 to 3:00, at VCU’s Student Commons.* The
conference will focus on
how effective
teaching is essential in improving student learning.
The keynote speakers are:
Philip Bigler,
Director of The James Madison Center
and
Tabitha Strickler,
2007 Region 1 Teacher of the Year
Presentations will be made
by VCU faculty, and by school division personnel who will report
on programs targeting connecting research to practice by using
data to improve education.
This conference is an
opportunity for graduate students, teachers, administrators,
counselors, and faculty to learn about and discuss research and
practice about instruction that can enhance the academic success
of students. Recertification points will be issued to
participants.
The fee for MERC members,
Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Hanover, Henrico, Powhatan &
Richmond City school districts is $10.00. The fee for
non-member school divisions and universities is $35.00. There
is no fee for presenters.

* The Student Commons is located at 907 Floyd
Avenue. The Student Commons is directly behind the Landmark
Theater and takes up an entire block. The Ballroom is on the 2nd
floor. If street parking is not available (please read signs
carefully) then park in the deck at 801 W. Main St. (between
Cherry & Laurel streets - across from the Landmark Theater) and
we will provide you with a parking pass. From the deck walk
across Main St. and enter the Student Commons.
