Dr. Sutherland's primary areas of interest include teacher/student interactions in classrooms for students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD), the relationship between learning and behavior problems, and intervention research. He is a faculty member for the VA-LEND (Leadership Excellence in Neurodevelopmental Disabilites) program, an interdisciplinary training program for advanced graduate students, and is research faculty at the Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development, a National Academic Center of Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention in the Psychology department at VCU. Dr. Sutherland is Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on several federally-funded research and training projects.
