Master of Teaching in Health and Physical Education

The Master of Teaching program in Health and Physical Education is a five-year course of study leading to a Master of Teaching degree and teacher certification in health and physical education. Students completing the program will be certified to teach health and physical education at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and are eligible for teacher licensure in Virginia as well as 44 other states. During their five years, students receive extensive experience interacting with students in both urban and suburban schools.

The teacher education program in health and physical education emphasizes the development of reflective thinking and problem-solving skills. Students develop into reflective practitioners through a combination of theoretical course work and early and sequential field experiences.

Students wishing to pursue the teacher education program in health and physical education should follow the outlined series of steps to meet program expectations.
