Master of Science in Athletic Training (Entry-level)
VCU is now offering an entry-level master of science in athletic training (MSAT). The MSAT Program is a 24 month program beginning July of the first year. Students complete 4 semesters and 2 summer sessions (including the first summer). Courses in the program include:
NOTICE TO STUDENTS
The M.S.A.T. program will apply for accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) in September 2007 with an expected program evaluation in the spring semester of 2008. Application for CAATE accreditation does not guarantee accreditation, and if accreditation is not awarded to the M.S.A.T. program following their anticipated site visit, students enrolled in the program will not be eligible to register with the Board of Certification Inc. (BOC) and take the certifying examination.

Prerequisites:
- Human Anatomy and Physiology (one semester each or one year total, 6 credits minimum)
- Kinesiology
- Personal Health
- Exercise Physiology
- Nutrition.
Other recommended courses include:
- Exercise or Sport Psychology
- Biomechanics
- Statistics
- Chemistry

Admissions:
Application to the athletic training program is a two step process.
Step 1: Students must apply directly to the graduate school and a complete all application materials requested by the graduate school. (Important Note: Students applying for the 06-07 academic year should designate Health and Movement Science as the Curriculum and Athletic Training as the Specialization.)
Step 2: Supplemental Application materials must also be completed. Supplemental Application forms for the athletic training program are available at the link below. Applications should be sent to the Athletic Training Program Director, P.O. Box 842020, Richmond, VA 23284-2020.

Items to be included in the Supplemental Application are 1)
proof of physical exam, 2) proof of Hepatitis B vaccination, 3) content
verification form and syllabus for each prerequisite course (valid
syllabi must include daily or weekly schedules of course content). In
addition, an interview with the athletic training major admissions
committee may be required. If an interview is required, interviews will
be scheduled through the Department of Health and Human Performance administrative office, (804) 828-1948. The selection of students for the athletic training major is competitive. The application deadline for admission is March 15th, but priority will be given to applications received by February 1st. Review of applications will begin February 1st and continue until the class is complete.
