Master of Science in Athletic Training (Entry-level)
VCU offers an entry-level master of science in athletic training (MSAT). The MSAT Program is a 24 month program beginning July of the first year. Students complete 4 semesters and 2 summer sessions (including the first summer).
The MSAT program has earned initial accreditation from The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students who successfully complete the MSAT program will be eligible to register for the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) and take the certifying examination. The MSAT program is fully accredited by The CAATE and is scheduled for a continuing accreditation site visit in the 2012-2013 academic year. Course in the MSAT program included:

Prerequisites:
- Human Anatomy and Physiology (one semester each or one year total, 6 credits minimum)
- Kinesiology
- Personal Health
- Exercise Physiology
- Nutrition

Step 2
-Complete MSAT program supplemental application.
2a. Three letter of recommendation using the VCU Graduate School Reference form.
2b. Personal statement: A letter to the director stating your reasons for wanting to pursue a degree in Athletic Training and a completed Supplemental Application form.
2c. Complete supplemental application form.
2d. Complete application checklist.
2e. Provide evidence of Hepatitis B immunization.
2f. Proof of health examination, which verifies that the student can safely meet the physical and technical skills required by an athletic training student (physical evaluation form).
2g. Complete and signed technical standards form.
-A successful interview with the MSAT admissions committee.

An interview with the athletic training major admissions committee may be required. If an interview is required, interviews will be scheduled through the Department of Health and Human Performance administrative office, (804) 828-1948. The selection of students for the athletic training major is competitive. The application deadline for admission is March 15th, but priority will be given to applications received by February 1st. Review of applications will begin February 1st and continue until the class is complete."
