The mission of the Department of Educational Leadership is to prepare critically reflective practitioners who are instructional leaders. Through coursework and other experiences, the program prepares leaders who are able to develop positive school cultures that enhance student learning.

The Department of Educational Leadership offers programs leading to the M.Ed., and Post-Master’s Certificate. Individuals may also pursue the Ph.D. in Education specializing in the Educational Leadership Track. Individuals who complete one or more those programs may qualify for endorsement by the Virginia Department of Education as a K-12 principal/supervisor. The Leadership Studies track in the M.Ed. is offered for individuals who wish to study leadership in educational settings but do not wish to seek a position as a school administrator.
