Over the past 60 years, the overall rate of suicide among adolescents has tripled, making it the third leading cause of death among 15 to 24 year olds and the second leading cause of death among college age students. Each year an estimated 1,099 college students end their lives.

Facts About Suicide:

In the years 1989-1998, 307,973 people died as a result of suicide.
Suicide is the 8^th leading cause of death for all Americans, including children.
Between 1952 and 1995, the incidence of suicide among adolescents and young adults nearly tripled.
More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia and influenza, and chronic lung disease, COMBINED.
In 1999, approximately 1 out of every 13 high school students reported making a suicide attempt in the preceding 12 months.
