BACKGROUND
The Commonwealth of Virginia's Office of the Governor receives Federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities dollars to support substance abuse prevention and violence reduction efforts in communities throughout the state. Programs funded via the Governor's office will support the development and implementation of community-wide drug and violence prevention planning and organizing activities in addition to information dissemination about drug and violence prevention. Programs or activities funded through the Governor's office will complement and support activities of local educational agencies, including the development and implementation of activities to prevent and reduce violence associated with prejudice and intolerance.
Governor's Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act grants are intended to support drug and violence prevention activities. Projects in the following four categories will be funded:
1. Programs for Youth Who Need Special Services or Additional Resources;
2. Replication of Evidence-Based Programs;
3. Community Prevention Needs Assessments;
4. Continuation of Effective Programs.
2005-2006 Grant Recipients
The 2005-2006 Governor's Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act grants have been awarded. Official announcements have been sent out. Congratulations to all who were awarded.
