The School of Education sponsors a variety of centers and institutes that connect students and faculty to the field of practice.
The Center for School Community Collaboration mission is to prevent and reduce youth problems in Virginia by working with school and community leaders throughout the state. The guiding principle of the Center is that community-wide action based on collaboration and cooperation is essential to overcoming negative, destructive factors and to promoting healthy, resilient, productive youth.
The Center for School Improvement partners with school, district, state, and national leaders to build organizational instructional capacity to increase student achievement and school accountability based on rigorous research and best practices.
The Center for Teacher Leadership is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established to promote and support teacher leadership in order to improve teaching and learning.
The Child Development Center provides quality, developmentally appropriate care and education for the children of faculty, employees, and students of the university, and serves as a model and resource to families, students, and the community. The Child Development Center not only seeks to address the health and safety needs of children, but also, has as its final goal, the development of the whole child--social, emotional, physical and cognitive.
The Commonwealth Educational Policy Institute (CEPI) supports the development and implementation of research-based comprehensive educational public policy for the improvement of elementary and secondary education through research, policy analysis, service to school divisions and support services for local, state, and national educational policy-makers.

The Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) is a partnership of Virginia Commonwealth University and Richmond Area school divisions working together to provide systematic, disciplined inquiry into public education. MERC provides a structure and process for conducting and disseminating applied research that will improve our educational system and enhance student learning.
The Partnership for People with Disabilities is a federally designated university center for excellence in developmental disabilities education, research, and service. The Partnership works with people with disabilities, their families, state and local agencies, and community providers to enable individuals with disabilities to participate fully in their communities.
- The Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Training & Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) at Virginia Commonwealth University offers a variety of services tailored to assist personnel in schools, interagency coordinating councils and state-operated programs in Superintendent's Regions 1 and 8.
- The VDOE T/TAC at VCU is also a part of the Partnership for People with Disabilities, a member of the national University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.
The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center studies supports that are most effective for assisting individuals with disabilities to maintain employment and advance their careers. The primary stakeholders for this project are persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on those who are unemployed, underemployed or at risk of losing employment.
The Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center. As a division of the The Literacy Institute at VCU, The Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center strengthens the Virginia Adult Education and Literacy System through professional development, resources, communication, and collaborative projects. All Virginia adult education and literacy programs and organizations are eligible for services. It is the largest center of its type in the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Center for Teaching International Studies is a partnership between the School of Education and the World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond. Its central purpose is to enhance the teaching of international studies in Virginia's middle and high schools.
