Welcome
Region 1 Autism Education Consortium
Accomplishments 2008-2010
The Autism Education Consortium for Region 1 Schools in Virginia formed its Board of Directors in June, 2008. The Superintendents in each of the fifteen school divisions in Region 1 were instrumental in developing the Consortium. They, along with other stakeholders, have been extremely supportive in regards to improving programming for students with autism. The Consortium is the first of its kind in Central Virginia. Virginia Commonwealth University has partnered with the Region 1 schools to help provide information on research in the field of autism.
One of the focuses of the Autism Education Consortium is to provide on-going staff development opportunities for member schools. The staff development may be delivered through trainings and workshops. It is the intent of the Consortium to build capacity in each of its member school divisions by offering trainings that teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators and other stakeholders can take back to their schools and share with others. There is also a focus on sharing resources/knowledge among the member school divisions. This enables the Region 1 schools to work more as a large team to improve services for students with autism.
