Overview
The mission of the Department of Educational Leadership is to prepare critically reflective educators who are instructional leaders; to create and share knowledge that leads to improved practice and policy; and to connect with the field to support and nourish social justice, learning, and accountability.
The Department of Educational Leadership offers programs at the master’s and post-master’s level. Individuals who complete the M.Ed., Administration and Supervision Track, or Post-Master’s Certificate may qualify for endorsement by the Virginia Department of Education as a K-12 principal/supervisor. The Leadership Studies track in the M.Ed. is offered for individuals who wish to study leadership in educational settings but do not wish to seek a position as a school administrator.
The department also offers doctoral-level studies. Individuals wishing to work in higher education settings may pursue the Ph.D. in Education specializing in the Educational Leadership Track. The Ed.D. in Leadership is a new program now available to those wishing to remain in practitioner settings .
