The VCU School of Education is emerging as a vibrant leader in education and health-related teaching and scholarship. From investigating issues as broad-based as improving school performance, influencing problem behavior, leading educational change, or addressing the obesity pandemic, our faculty are striving to find the answers to real world challenges. As a result, our undergraduate and graduate students benefit from an education that is influenced by cutting-edge research and is reinforced through applied practice. Our research is a mix of theoretical and applied models, and we value working collaboratively with students to improve educational practice and to influence health behaviors. Many undergraduate and graduate students are funded through research and training grants, creating a learning environment that extends beyond the classroom to embrace the larger community.
Through the development of an aggressive six-year academic plan, the School of Education is positioned to be a major contributor to the university’s vision of becoming a nationally-recognized learning-centered research institution. Doctoral student enrollment has increased more than 80% over the last five years and we have focused our undergraduate emphasis in programs of excellence related to health and human performance.
We take pride in bridging opportunities within a culturally diverse and rich urban environment. As a part of a learning-centered research institution, the School of Education is strategically positioned to bridge opportunities for faculty and students to grow professionally and to interact with outstanding community partners within a creative and reflective learning environment.
If you are seeking a vibrant learning community where faculty and students are engaged in meaningful collaborative initiatives within a rich, urban environment, I encourage you to consider the VCU School of Education.
