Introduction
to Module 1
Thematic Multisensory Teaching
The multisensory approach to teaching
theme-based units in a preschool program is designed to give children with
developmental delays an opportunity to learn through all sensory
modalities. Toni Linder, Ed. D., who is the author of “Read, Play and
Learn”, discusses the benefits of a multisensory approach. The key areas
are visual language, literacy and play, written language, oral language,
listening, and speaking.
This unit will demonstrate the
multisensory approach within a preschool special education classroom.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon the completion of this
module, the learner will be able to:
1) identify
the 5 senses that enhance the learning of a young child;
2) focus on
the greatest area of sensory deficit; and
3) present
activities to encourage and enhance all the sensory areas.
