Introduction to Module 3

BUILDING AN INTEGRATED UNIT OF INSTRUCTION

OBJECTIVES:  Through completion of this module, the learner will:

a.         prepare a unit of instruction including five lessons plans that integrate multiple content areas in meaningful learning experiences at a selected grade level

b.         identify experiences in technology, the arts, and literature to support their instructional unit

APPROXIMATE TIME REQUIRED TO REVIEW MODULE:  30 minutes

APPROXIMATE TIME REQUIRED TO COMPLETE MODULE ACTIVITIES:  2 weeks

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.         Review the PowerPoint presentation for Module 3.

2.        Review the state curriculum standards for the grade level you will be teaching to identify a topic for your instructional unit.

3.         Review the sample instructional unit provided in the resource file for Module 3.

4.         Visit the web-sites suggested in the PowerPoint presentation to review other sample instructional units.

5.         With a partner, brainstorm words and phrases associated with your unit topic.

6.         Organize the words and phrases you brainstormed and attach a title to each category that emerges.

7.         Order the categories in a logical sequence for teaching.

8.         Identify tradebooks, songs, and movement activities that support your unit.

9.         Develop a lesson plan (maybe more than one is needed) for each category.  Make sure to follow the guidelines in the PowerPoint presentation for your introductory and closing lesson plans.

10.      Share your unit plan with your partner.  Ask for feedback and constructive criticism.
